LG disaster – peter –
I had also encountered same problem, board went out took 6 weeks to get it back from best buy waranty sponsored vendors.my take pl. avoid lg in future as well as best buy perfprmance plans ,they all are gimmicks.

LG products – K. Miller –
Stay away from all LG products. I bought an expensive LG plasma HGTV with a DVR. It’s board has gone out three times & it turns itself on & off. And now it won’t even turn on without difficulties. The worst mistake of my life. I also had a LG DVD player that turned itself on & off. The store where I bought the TV is considering dropping LG products from their store.

Don’t waste your money!!1 – R. J. Grant –
Stay away from this and all LG’s. Mine has gone out twice and have found since it is a common problem. If you don’t believe me goggle “LG pop of death”. The boards get to hot and “pop”. Takes about 0 a “pop” so to speak. Again do your research! I wish I did mine.

Plasma HDTV Deals

The problem most people face when they are ready to buy a plasma TV is the price effect, or that’s what I at least like to call it. There are many great plasma HDTV deals out there, but you don’t really know if you are buying for the right price. There are many great ways you can find to really decide if you are going for the best price, and believe it or not they are not that complicated either. It is quite easy just to go for any plasma HDTV, but you have to make sure it meets all your requirements first before you decide to buy it.

The first and best place to start if you want my recommendation is online, that is obvious, if it isn’t…well then think about it. Where else can you find all the best deals and all the best prices under one roof? It sure won’t happen in one store that you visit, because what about the other 2 dozens stores around the area that also are giving out amazing deals. If you are shopping online for plasma HDTV deals you know you can easily get access to all the discounts and sales with a click of a button.

Another recommendation is to visit online forums and talks and see what people are talking about in the entertainment section. You will find lots of people interested in TV’s and will most likely guide you to the right choice when you are deciding to buy. You can’t literally visit every store and find all the deals, and anyways I’m sure people have done that already so why not seek their advice before you go and make your final decision.

Not only that if you are buying online you can find many coupons and discounts that will lead you to buying at a better price or better rates if you are doing it in payments. Reading reviews and seeing what other people have rated your product is another way to actually triple check if the selection you are making is the best one. Only after that if you still don’t want to buy online, would you go to an actual store and make your purchase for the best plasma HDTV deal.

LED HDTV – Understanding the Different Types of LED Televisions

There are two main types of the LED HDTV, and they can be split into two different versions by the type of back lighting they use. One is called an edge-lit LED and the other is known as a back-lit LED television. In this article we will look at the back-lit LED HDTV and try to understand how it works.

What is a Back-lit LED HDTV?

All TVs of this type are lit by LED lights, which have been shown to give some advantages over other types of lighting. Back-lit LED televisions have the LED lights placed directly behind the screen, which is similar the the way an LCD TV has it’s lighting arranged.

These LED lights are placed into blocks, and are grouped together so that they can be controlled at the same time. Therefore, each block has the ability to be switched off and on separately to the other blocks around it. The advantage of this is that in an image with some dark areas and some light areas, the dark parts can have their blocks switched of completely to enable an completely black signal.

This extra control isn’t possible on an LCD television.

Local-dimming Technology

The name of this technique is local dimming, and this is the term you should be looking for if you want to buy an LED TV that is built in this way. The main advantage is an LED HDTV with this type of technology may have a better contrast ratio than other types of high-definition television. LCDs have always traditionally had a problem with a poor contrast ratio compared to that of a plasma TV, and so this method of backlighting is aimed at addressing this problem.

The Problems With Local-dimming

As ever with all of this technology, there is a downside to this idea. The problems occur when one block of lights is covered by a light and a dark part of the image. This will then have the same problems associated with an LCD TV where the block cannot be switched of completely, and so it is impossible to get the black part completely dark.

There is a way to resolve this issue, and that would be to have one LED light for every pixel on the TV screen – but the problem with this is that it would be far to expensive to build a TV in this way and so they would be too expensive for most people to buy. However, with all things taken into account, this method of building a back-lit LED HDTV does generally produce a TV with a better picture than that of most LCD TVs.

LED HDTV Summary

So as we can see, there is actually more than one type of LED HDTV that you can buy, and the way that it is built can have a big effect on the quality of the picture that you get. So if you are looking to buy an LED television then it is important to understand the differences in design because they can have a big impact on the performance of the TV.

Back-lit LED HDTVs also have a couple of other disadvantages when compared to edge-lit models – or LCD televisions for that matter. You can find out more about these issues by visiting the links in the resource box below.

Great Price LG 37LH55 for $799.77

LG 37LH55 37-Inch 1080p 240Hz LCD HDTV, Gloss Black Review

LG 37LH55 37-Inch 1080p 240Hz LCD HDTV, Gloss Black – What can I say about this HDTV that hasn’t already been said. The picture quality is outstanding, “True Motion” makes the movies; even low quality video look so real and even better than those new 3-D monitors (it’s like looking through a window), the sound is clear, the fiber optic output sending a 5.1 surround signal to my stereo (dropped from five video audio inputs to one) is awsome, “Energy Star”, case presentation, 4-HDMI’s, the hard to find comfortable 37″ size (why do you need anything bigger??? unless your entertainment room is as big as “Radio City” in New York). Hands down, LG can even give Sony a run for it’s money. All of the monitors in my house are LG and they look just as good as those new LED TV’s that are coming out. From what I see on the Net, there is not too many of this model left and the price on Amazon was so hard to believe that when I actually went through the checkout to make sure, I was very suprised and I recieved before the actual delivery date. I’d get one if I were you and wait for the bugs to be worked out of those new 3-D monitors and those silly glasses that give you nothing but a headache anyway.

Amaizing LDC TV – Jorge F. Diaz – Dallas, TX
This is a one of a kind LDC TV, the quality on the picture is amazing. I bought this unit for watching the World Cup games and the picture is stunning

Excellent – Dhiraagh D. Dammar – Miami, Fl
This TV is a great choice. I play video games and watch a lot of Blu-Ray movies. This TV has crisp color and the backlight function is very nice. Almost everything on this TV is custom, the picture quality, sound, inputs, channel options. This TV was created for every user due to its ease of use. When I bought this TV I got it for 0 and even after Black Friday I still can’t find another TV as good as this and for the price. The 240hz option is ok but isn’t need. 120hz, however, is needed for fluid motion. Overall I am very pleased with this television… it feels as if this TV is a “smart” TV because it is customizable.

Check Out LG 42PJ350 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV for $489.99

LG 42PJ350 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV Review

I did not buy the TV from Amazon. I bought it from PC Richards. It replaced a 26 year old mitsubishi that was the most dependable tv ever. Unfortunately mitsubishi tvs are out of my price range. I was originally looking for a 26 to 32 inch tv. The problem I found is that the smaller tvs are more expensive than this model.
Before I bought I did a lot research. What I found out is that plasma is a better picture and has fewer issues than LED and LCD tvs. But when a plasma has problems (which they do) they are very expensive that is why you buy the extended warranty. The reason why I went to PC Richards is that they had the best price in the area. they also matched the price of another local store (in NJ called electronic expo). While they could not meet the price they took the difference of the price of the tv. The only problem with PC Richards is do not go on a weekend or on a really hot night in the summer.
You need 2 people to put the tv together and set it up. It is not heavy it just large and delicate. The tv has great reception. I cancelled my cable and am now using Rabbit years. I am approximately 45 minutes north of NYC and I get 45 channels. there is no reason to pay for tv anymore.
The picture it is crip and clean. It is so clear that you can see the actors/ actresses caked on make up. you really do not need the 1080 pixels. the 720 is fine.
The volume is fine I have it set at 36 out 100. the Tv is in a large room and is just awesome.
No defects. There is a disk for you to insert in your computer when it is connected to the computer for more features.
You can connect the tv to the internet and you can watch tv on the internet. Again, no reason to pay for cable.
The picture shows the different colors brilliantly.
Watching Avatar on the DVD player was an experience.
As much as I will miss my reliable old tv, this one is a thing of beauty. Just buy the extended warranty (for less than 0 dollars for 5 years-it is a no brainer).
If you go to PC richards in Yonkers Daniel is really nice and honest. I first went to the PC richards in Norwalk and they were sleazy.
While I know it is not going to last 26 years if it makes it 10 I will be happy.

Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room?

HDTV Size chart With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience.

If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get.

  • Minimum size = Viewing distance/3
  • Maximum size=Viewing distance/1.5

LG good, Amazon not so good this time – Anderthal –
First, the TV is good. Picture is good, has thin frame, easy to install, lots of features. Compared to Samsung plasma screens, seems almost the same quality picture, and has a lot more flexibility of inputs, self-adjustment capability, 24p capabilities, etc, etc. Noticed a little burn-in after it sat on YouTube for hours, but it didn’t stay (they have some sort of removal system, but they don’t devote a lot of information to it). It is in a bedroom, so reflectivity has not been an issue. The few HD materials we’ve seen have been fantastic, as have the many upconverted SD materials. Haven’t taken the time to try off-the-air reception, since we are more than 30 miles from most of the local transmitters. I did notice the TV buzzing a little one morning, but not consistently, as seemed to be reported by 10% of Samsung owners.

Now for the whining about Amazon. The unit shipped to our local CEVA depot within a week. Unfortunately, it sat there for more than another week with no contact from them. Once we called 3 days in a row to complain, we finally aranged a delivery date. I looked at CEVA Trak, and it seems like this may only be a problem for addresses delivered from DFW.

When the CEVA guys delivered the TV, they asked if I wanted it unpacked. Thank God I asked them to do it! The screen was shattered on the right side (about 20% of the display) though there was no evidence of mishandling on the box. I refused it and they took it back (though i got a handful of calls from Amazon and CEVA asking when I wanted to return it).

Unfortunately, the TV I bought was not in stock anymore and Amazon was not willing to contact LG to get it. So they refunded my money (did have to wait several days) and I bought it at a local retailer (but had to pay tax). The price had gone up on Amazon and it looked like they were going to make me pay more for it anyway. Caveat Emptor.

For about 500 out-the-door – dadof4 –
Looking for a bargain tv for my father-in-law who is definitely not a video techie…found this LG which was reviewed in CR. Reviews read here looked good and the price was right so went forward and purchased it for about 0 delivered to my doorstep. First impressions out of the box was that it was pretty slim and had simple, clean cosmetics. Hooked it up to HD cable and was happy with the picture quality, sound, and user friendly controls/set up. We’ve had it for about a month and couldn’t be happier for the price. It’s 720p but it has everything else needed including HDMI inputs. Some may not like that it has a glossy screen but it has not presented a problem for us and we have it ten feet away from a west facing large window placed along the east adjacent wall. For the price and delivered to my doorstep, I can recommend it for anyone looking for a second TV where 1080 isn’t an issue.

Buying an HDTV Converter

HDTV is no longer the future of television. In fact, it is quickly becoming today’s TV standard. Pretty soon, most networks will be broadcasting their shows in High Definition format and unless you want to be left behind, you can either purchase your own HDTV or buy an HDTV converter.

Before you buy an HDTV converter, though, you have to understand what it does and more importantly, what it does not do. HDTV converters receive digital signals, including HD signals, and simplify them by converting them into analog signals that your TV can understand. They do NOT convert your analog TV into an HDTV. In fact, they cannot, since it takes more than the capacity to receive digital signals to make a TV into an HDTV. Remember, superior picture and audio quality are the trademarks of HDTVs.

HDTV converters are also not to be confused with HDTV tuners. HDTV tuners receive HD signals from sources such as cable and satellite TV boxes and Blu-Ray players then decode them so they can be properly displayed on the HDTV. Some HDTVs already come with built-in HDTV tuners and are labeled as Full HD while those that do not are tagged as HD Ready. If you have an HD Ready TV, you need an HDTV tuner, but not an HD converter. Remember, HDTV converters are only used with analog TVs.

Now that you know what HDTV converters do, you can go ahead and start looking for one to buy. You will be faced with several choices, and to find the best one, the most important factor to consider are the features. One such feature is the Analog (RF) Passthrough. This way, you can receive digital signals and still get analog signals from the networks that continue to use them. After all, while many networks will be making the switch to digital broadcasting, some will not, and unless you want to keep on plugging and unplugging your HD converter, getting one with an Analog Passthrough feature is recommended to get both types of broadcast signals.

Another feature to look for is the S-video (Super Video) Output. Although not superior to component video, S-video offers better picture quality than the standard composite video, which results in sharper images – although not nearly as sharp as those you would see on an HDTV.

You can get better sound quality with an HD converter, too, if you buy one with Stereo Output. Again, this is not nearly as crisp or clear as the sound of an HDTV, but it is still better, especially if you connect it to a surround sound system, like the one that comes with HDTVs.

Other recommended features include Smart Antenna support and an Electronic Program Guide or EPG which lets you flip through your programming options with the press of a button instead of consulting a TV guide on paper and even without a cable subscription. Some EPGs even allow you to make your own personalized list of favorite TV shows and networks while some provide more information about each show. You might want to choose a converter with a universal remote control included, as well, although this is not that important.

Aside from the features of the HD converter, check the brand, as well, along with the cost. Some converters can be purchased for free if you get a coupon, but the good ones are not eligible and cost more than a $100. This price is relatively low compared to high-end HDTVs which can cost thousands of dollars. Then again, you can always use the money to start saving for your own HDTV, which definitely offers a far better viewing experience than that of a HDTV converter and analog TV.
